Burt Bacharach

I get confused sometimes because I will really like a song then I find out Burt Bacharach composed it. Okay well so far has only happened twice but still! I didn't know he was the brains behind certain awesome songs.
For example he composed Another Tear Falls. Gene McDaniels was the first to sing it in 1961 and then the Walker Brothers did it in 1966. He also composed "Make it easy on yourself" which hit the number 1 spot in the UK in 1965 when the Walker Brothers sang it. And last but not least I was surprised to find out that he composed "Baby it's you". The Shirelles originally did it in 1962 and the Beatles did it in 1963. I love the Beatle's version real hard.

This is Gene McDaniels singing Another Tear Falls. I love that he is smoking and singing and that he takes a hit from it right in the middle of the song. Like this song is easy to do. So bad ass!!

El Sonidito

hey dudes - i heard this on the way home from work one night, packed into a taxi with about 6 other people, on a mix with a bunch of norteno, rock lobster and california dreaming. when this one came on everybody started bobbing up and down. i thought you guys would enjoy it too: el sonidito. it seems to be a hit around here at the moment.

i'd also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the albums and mixes you've posted, they have helped keep me alive for the last 2 months! in a world of norteno, banda, total eclipse of the heart and some boney m....

You're so dramatic it just makes me want to set myself on fire!

Sometimes you just gotta bust out with the most over the top jams and get stoopid.

Of course Roy always knows how to bring it home with his powerful endings.
These are pretty much all doinker baby Whitford jams.

Rudy Love And The Love Family - s/t (1976)

http://www.mediafire.com/?sp0gfdh2frj5ba5

A very similar album to that already posted mostly because most of the songs are mostly the same. This debut LP was released 2 years earlier on Calla and features some of their early singles not included on This Song Is For You such as Ain't Nothin' Spooky, Does Your Mama Know, and She's My Sister as well as a vocal version of Disco Queen. This record is not as soft and smooth as the later release, but I really like Does Your Mama Know, a solid get down-er (also sampled on Jay-Z's Sweet). So which is better? you be the judge...

Tracks:
  • A1 Ain’t Nuthin’ Spooky
  • A2 Disco Queen(Instrumental)
  • A3 My Imagination
  • A4 Shake Your Tail Feathers
  • B1 Does Your Mama Know
  • B2 Love Electricity
  • B3 Disco Queen(Vocal)
  • B4 She’s My Sister
  • B5 Come Back Home

Who do you love?

Bernard Wright

Playing stand up bass with a bad-ass head band. Yes please! I like when they rotate together like shoubals.

Rudy Love And The Love Family - This Song Is For You (1978)

http://www.mediafire.com/?jczr07es531jmrh

Another discovery from my quest for "Your Love Is So Doggone Good." Rudy Love actually wrote the song way back in the day but never recorded his own version until 2007. Rudy Love And The Love Family records are pretty hard to find (they only put out 2 LPs that I know of in the 70s.) This one does not feature the aforementioned song, of course, but it is a soul funk good'un that's been keeping me moving on that long commute home from work.

Tracks
A1 This One Is For You 5:32
A2 Disco Queen (Instrumental) 4:27
A3 My Imagination 6:30
A4 All I Can Say 4:35
B1 Take Nothing For Granted 6:00
B2 Love Electricity 3:24
B3 Come Back Home 5:42
Saxophone [Solo] - Melvin "Tank" Jernigan*
B4 World Citizen 5:21

Now, listen up sucka...SOULTIMATUM IS HERE!

Now look here...ya know, sometimes consequences follow actions. Maybe it took a little while to shake out the cobwebs, but as of right now, the shoe's on the other foot. The shot-caller is about to get their shots called. This here train is on the tracks and is about to release the brake. Either you bought your ticket in advance, or you're gonna pay a premium to stay aboard.
My chin's up, my foot's down. Now, I ain't no lawyer, but lemme give you some advice: you best stop runnin your mouth, and massage my damn toes...
Soultimatum, VOL. I and VOL. II.
Enjoy.
