Oliver Onions - Jonah's Faves

Guido and Maurizio DeAngelis, sometimes known collectively as Oliver Onions, are masters of Italian film music. About a year ago I snatched up everything by them I could get my hands on and compiled this mix for pure listening pleasure. It showcases their diversity, from disco stompers to comedy ballads, from electro jams to brooding spaghetti westerns. These guys did it all! I have posted this on other blogs but I thought the world is ready for a reminder.
I hope you like. I do.

Yippee-ki-Yay Mother Fucker

K I have been working on this mix for too damn long. I decided I need to stop being a perfectionist and just put it out there because this mix will never be to my country standards. I think it's close enough. Download Here.

1. Herding Cattle - Stringbean & Earl Scruggs
2. Take Me Like I Am - Johnny Horton
3. Low and Lonely - Hank Williams
4. Flowers on the Wall - The Statler Brothers
5. Don't Come Home A Drinkin'- Loretta Lynn
6. The Race is On - George Jones
7. Heartaches by the number - Buck Owens
8. Gentle On My Mind - Glen Cambell
9. If I Needed You - Townes Van Zandt
10. The Long Black Veil - Lefty Frizzell*
11. The First One - George Jones
12. Hickory Wind - The Byrds
13. Stand by Your Man - Tammy Wynette
14. Do Right Woman, Do Right Man - The Flying Burrito Brothers
15. A World So Full of Love - Roger Miller **
* Lefty Frizzell ends up talking at the end of this track. I think it's from a radio show but i just left it cause I kind of ended up liking it.
** This has ended up one of my favorite country song. It's like Roger Miller ripped his heart out, threw it on a table and sang this song. I loves it real hard.

Jeffrey @ The Compton 3-Par Golf Course!!!

So, I done found it...and it's not at Gonzalez Park, but at the mighty Compton 3-Par Golf Course!! (obviously not much golf being played here on a sunny Saturday afternoon)

Jeffrey is a slight undercard, cuz Teena Marie gonna be there too!!

I made some phone calls, and you can just buy tix at the venue (unless you really just feel like making a visit to Compton City Hall and buying them from the City Clerk's Office - though they assured me it was unnecessary).

$10 for lawn tix (which includes free watermelon and Red Soda Water as well as tournament games of Bid Whist and Bones! - see attached flyer)

I s'pose Jeffrey n' Teena wouldn't go on 'til the end...but, keep in mind, gates open at 10am, and they shut her down at 6pm.

!??????! L. Ron Hubbard's Jazz FREAKOUT

CHECK THIS OUT:

The Apollo Stars - 'Power Of Source'
1974, private press, released by L.Ron Hubbard

weird

"Amazing L. Ron Hubbard Scientology funky jazz ensemble from '74, all over the place with a great garage "playing over our heads" feel. The fact that this band was assembled to gather recruits with free "rock concerts" round the world makes it even better.
Recorded on the Apollo ship which the Scientologists lived on in the early 70's cuz they where banned from about every country around the globe. look at them now!
...folks thought they where the CIA when they'd pull into port and play on the deck of the ship... Awsome stuff." --X-Ray Visions

Swamp Diggitydogg fer ya

The First 5 Records! that's right. right here: (note that most of these are not my uploads so may be .rar files as opposed to .zip. otherwise they are all personally tested and found true by yours truly)
Total Destruction To Your Mind (1970)

Rat On! (1971)

Cuffed Collared Tagged Gassed (1972)

Gag A Maggot (1973)

Have You Heard This Story?? (1974)

And This is written on the back of of "Cuffed... "

"This album is by far the greatest piece of writing, arranging, producing and sequencing genius that I've ever encountered. Anyone who has heard the first two Swamp Dogg albums will possibly say impossible, but after listening to this one will make the cross-over to incredible. The only album that may possibly compare with this one, is the one that I'm contemplating doing in the late future.

Everything that is necessary to make a hit album I have; ego, talent, originality, humor and I am dynamic, articulate, defiant, altruistic, considerate, warm, wonderful & humble. My reputation speaks for itself, having either written, produced or both, hit records for Gene Pitney, Z.Z. Hill, Freddie North, Doris Duke, Wilson Picket, Arthur Conley, Lulu, Stoneground, Johnny Paycheck, Conway Twitty, Dee Dee Warwick, Little Richard, Whispers, Gary Bonds, Joe Tex, Donnie Elbert, Lightning Slim, Irma Thomas, John Rowles, Tommy Overstreet, and Loretta Lynn, just to scratch the surface.

I have also been a Grammy nominee for the last two years. I'm also a Cancer (July 12) and twenty nine years in the world.

What you've just read is my trip and if you can't tolerate it, that's your trip.

Jerry Williams, Jr / P/K/A Swamp Dogg
"

(The message on the back of "Have You Heard..." is even better but I can't find a transcription on the web. I'll post it when I have time at home with the LP infront of me.)
