All my life

Eveybody's Talkin'

Tell Her No

The Race Is On

I really like Geroge Jone's early stuff but he is kinda hard to watch cause he looks like a scary Jim Carry. I do really like the colors in this video though oh and the song of course.

Marmoset there'll be days like this

Garth Marenghi - I'm A One Track Lover

I want to be Dean Learners' GF so hard

Mark Gormley

A very intense song.

chew on these puppies over the weekend:

Mindful on my gentles

Jonah posted that rad video of Glen Campbell and what's-his-dick Hartford singing "Gentle On My Mind", which reminded me of this slutty, rambling-bass-heavy cover of the greatest slutty rambler song ever written:

Elvis in the studio

That's All Right:

Kill that blower, or blow that killer. Whatever... You can't say big ass, man.

Elvis does Dylan and then gets at you from the grave

My favorite thing for Elvis to do is to wrap his rhinestone cape around somebody
else's shit and show them why they're not Elvis:

This makes me cry if I feel like getting worked up:

Credit where credit is due...

Just so we're clear, Jeffrey Osborne's proving ground started with another of my long-time favorite bands: LTD (aka Love, Togetherness, and Devotion)! Jeffrey, as well as his brother Billy (who is co-lead vocals in LTD), individually set off for solo careers after contributing to monster smash hits such as deez nutsssszzz...

'Love Ballad' is mine (and apparently Jeffrey's favorite from the era, performed recently) I'm sure you've all been subject to my hack karaoke version:

Another recent performance of another huge hit (wait for the ha, ha, ha! who are you kiddin!? - that's the woo woo-esque hook to this jam):

Of course, the set wouldn't be complete without they're biggest hit of all:

And this jam is just simply one for the ages. A timeless masterpiece...a heartfelt appeal to the man in the mirror after all those damn one night stands -- man whores and playa's everywhere will likely be singing this heartfelt classic til the sun explodes:

Harvest Moon

Jonah written all over it

Various duets with Art Garfunkel. Jimmy Webb and Harry Dean Stanton. okay maybe not Cher. but 2/3s Jonah might like.

Skip to 1.47 if you want to skip Harry Dean Stanton's speech

Barry White

Another doinker baby Whitford jam. Such a sweaty man. Lord have mercy.

How can you mend a broken heart?

Stay with me tonight

To motivate us for our Compton field trip.

thanks to eric yahnker...

...i can woo woo woo all day because this song is stuck in my brain!

Viva Forever

Spice Girls - Viva Forever
Uploaded by miss_watson. - Music videos, artist interviews, concerts and more.
What the heck were those Spice Girls smoking? I am pretty sure this is what happens when we die. Spice girl fairies put you in a rubix cube (coffin) then put you in a plastic egg and throw you into that big toy dispenser in the sky.
I wont lie... I think this song is good. Jim O'rouke does a cover of it so it must be true!

speaking of sending angels...

They had a BMX double feature at Cinefamily awhile back and we went. It was Rad

Send me an angel

I occasionally wake up with this song stuck in my head without hearing it at all.

Speaking of Glenn Campbell

My favorite uncle (my dad's older brother Ken) interviewed Glen Campbell. I am pretty sure that it was at my grandparent's house cause I remember that couch and wood paneling. You can see I follow in my uncle's and dad's foot steps with being a massive music nerd. He named his son Gram after Gram Parsons. My grandpa also has a record. A christian record but a record none the less.

Rev Alecia

I kinda love everything about this. The song is catchy too. I like when her hat falls off and that she is sitting in an office chair with gold fabric over it.

Portland Finds and Hot Chocolate

Just back from Portland and I spent money I probably shouldn't have on new musics. I got 4 mixed tapes from Mississippi Records. I got an early soul, a funk & hip hop, pop music and a kinks mix. I also got Glassworks, SRC, Charlie Brown Christmas on vinyl. I found this one record store that was mostly a punk record store but they had a really great $1 section. I got Hot Chocolate - Man to Man which made me think of you Jonah. I also got 3 Jeffrey Osborne albums. Who is down for a listening party?

Jerry Reed

Here are two money shots from Nashvegas session legend Jerry Reed. The boy's squirrely...

It's the hell-raisin' capitol of the Earth:

Let the dying time be near.

Only my dying will tell...

7 f&#king minutes.

Mariah/Phil catchup

Oh snap. Had to tack these on.

Hot And Badass

At first I was just going to post some photos of Ruth Copeland because she was such a tuff and funky sextress. But that wouldn't be fair. so, hell, HERE is a comp of her musics. You may remember her from the first track on my Wicked Ladies comp as well as numerous Parliament releases.

Solid Potato Salad, Jack!

This thing gets almost 'out-of-hand-wacky' in a hurry...those Ross Sister's just keep upping the ante...enjoy!

shhh.... Watermark...

Among my favorite songs of all time
Possibly the greatest song written by the greatly great songwriter Jimmy Webb
Brought to life by the man behind the voice behind the face: Richard Harris. check out those vocal sweeps! the man is out of control! ... or is he?

and then ten years later...

Boyz II Men

I was playing DJ at a party and played "at the end of the road" I didn't realize how long the song was. OH WELL!

BASS!

I have been watching Everybody Hates Chris. There is a scene where Chris and his little sister sing "It's like a jungle sometimes" to a baby. It's really cute.

Pure Nightmare Fuel

I would like to nominate this for the most terrifying music video in the world. This seriously deeply disturbs me. As if Phil Collins is not ugly enough? I can't even watch it all. I vote no!

Best of Mariah

and we'll linger on

wait a minute this is too deep

Beegees are always incredible, but Frank Stallone and Cynthia Rhodes more than hold their own on 'Staying Alive' soundtrack...

We all know 'Far From Over.' It's practically as beloved as 'Frosty the Snowman' and 'Happy Birthday,' but it's the Tony Manero/Jackie/British Laura love-triangle inspired jams that have held sway over my heart for as long as I can remember, and 'Moody Girl' has to be number one on that list. Although in this vid you only hear an abridged/slightly more up-tempo version than the original, it's helpful to set the scene for Frank's all too apt lyrical genius:

Oh, this heart-breaker absolutely slays me...I'll never forget that well-time tear streaming down her cheek...a tribute to Cynthia's genuine method acting, certainly - lest we forget Sly Stallone's enviable directing prowess...

Dear Frank and Cynthia, I'm never gonna give you up, either...

Phil & Philip

Oh that zany Phil Collins!!

I have been working hard on my county mix "yippee ki ya mother fucker" and am almost done with it. I have put a lot of thought into this one because a country mix is something that has to be done right. I used to hate country and it hasn't been until fairly recent that I have discovered that there is a huge difference from early county and the shit on CMT. I ended up finding out some stuff on my quest to pay tribute to good ol' country music. For example: I found the earliest recording of the song "Man of Constant Sorrow" by Emry Arthur. It was recorded in 1928 but the song didn't really become popular until 1951 when it was rerecorded by The Stanly Brothers.
I also found out that David Akeman aka "String Bean" is a tall rare snack treat to find in both mp3 and vinyl format. Don't worry where there is a will there is a way...and because I love String Bean so hard... he will be on that mix.
You can get the 1928 recording of man of constant sorrow here.
And of course some more String Bean!

found it!

Robin's Reign!

in the beginning there was... P R I N C E

The year, 1977.  The Special One, alone in the studio.  His big chance to Make It.

I revisited this CD on my way to work this morning.  haven't listened to it in maybe 3 years or so.  The Man totally nails it on this one, first time, right out the gate. Warner's gave him a chance and he TOOK IT.  laid it down.  did it right.  just goes to show if you want it done right, you gotta do it (absolutely everything) yourself.  E N J O Y

BILLY STEWART

SELMUTHAFUCKINDA

SELDA!
her voice is insane.
Selda Bagcan is a Turkish singer and guitar player. This album is from the mid seventies but in the 80's she was persecuted by the Turkish government for her political songs.

I can't believe I haven't posted this yet because it is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. It's got it all: it's heavy, smooth, fuzzy, sharp, fast, slow, weird, and I can't understand a word. But I get it.
Get It! here

One who tells it like it is -- download or bust...

A nine-song journey into the soul underworld...you'll know you've walked a Jheri-curl-mile in the hot and hungry urban jungle after the final track 'Can You Hang' fades into the ether.
1984 saw the track "Taxi" peak in the Top 10 on R&B charts, but I think the entire album deserves renewed critical reflection...
Ladies and Germans, I give you J. Blackfoot's "City Slicker."

To Know Him is To Love Him

This was the only band Phil Spector was actually a member in. He wrote this song which was inspired by the words written on his father's tomb stone. His father committed suicide when Phil was a boy. The song hit the number one spot in 1958.

The Best of Stairway to Stardom

I went through a phase where I only watched this.

The Vogues - You're the One

Listen, Listen! -- Merry-Go-Round introduced by Don Knotts!

I'll be the rubberband around a monkey's left nut if that isn't the most awkward canned adolescent girl screaming you ever heard. When you see the backs of the heads of the four people sitting in the front row, they all look like grey-hair's...probably Don Knott's family trying to support his doomed variety show. Nonetheless, Merry-Go-Round looks pretty great here!

Bass Fest

I love this enough to consider it music related.
Bass Fishin with my mother fuckin' son. He's dead but that doesn't mean we can't have fun.

Robin's Reign

I can't find a media fire link for this... but you should get this album.I think it's probably the best of Robin's solo stuff.

Damn! J. Blackfoot still got it...

If Juke Joint Monday Night in Jackson get any hotter, this humble reviewer's gonna climax out of every pore!

George McCREA

I don't know too many disco songs that I truly like a lot but this one is really good musically. Plus I love how shirtless and sexy he is under that jacket. I can't decide which video I like more so you get both. The first one is better sound quality but missing the flashy lights and shirtless-ness. I think it's that organ in the background that makes it really good.

New Music

K duders.... I am way out of the loop when it comes to newer good bands. I am stuck in the past with the exception of my generic R&B that I love for some reason. It's not that I am a snob I just don't even know where to begin. It's overwhelming to me. What bands do you really like that are not old as hell?

Phil Spector - Biography

If you have the time.... this is pretty interesting.

Freddie Jackson will croon directly into your damn face...

Apparently this caramel honey is hearing impaired, or has become so since starring with Freddie in multiple vids...
Public Service Announcement (mostly aimed at Freddie): smooth or not, singing directly into one's earhole WILL cause permanent damage...

Robin Gibb - Toys

I have side A of Robin Gibb's Walls Have Eyes album on repeat... so good! Like a fool is still my favorite from it.

Monday, April 5, 2010

I can't go for that

I bet Dennis Edwards chews Big Red...

Or maybe Chewels, with the gel center...personally, i never liked Chewels for the same reason i don't like cherry tomatoes and dongs; because they shoot straight to the back of your throat when you pierce 'em.

Green Hornet

I love that this guy is kicking so much ass and not even breaking a sweat

Like A Fool

My current Robin Gibb jam. I am working on a cover of Juliet with my sister which should be good... I am pretty excited about it.

The sun aint gonna shine

Cause Aaron is too lazy to post this.

Zambia 1975

this is blowing me away right now

here is what is written on the jacket:
"If you're feeling depressed, low, disturbed, irritable, out-of-sorts, sad, frustrated or wildly demented, then folks, we suggest you seek out a quiet place, indulge in some soothing meditation and cut away that headache by listening to this inspirational album (we've even included a copy of our lyrics to assist those who have difficulty in understanding the messages we transmit, in the hope that this will help them dig the LP in total). We would also like to extend out thanks to all those who have supported us int he past - we wish you well, brothers and sisters. To those of you who have been unkind and deliberately troublesome, we suggest you go jump in the lake specially featured for you on our cover. In closing, a special tribute to out collaborator Shaddick Bwalya for his tremendous contribution to this album. Right on, Witch!"

Detroit 1975

You probably know about this band by now because of the famous Drag City re-issue of their only recorded album and their recent comeback at SXSW.  But I've been listening to it a lot lately and thought I should share it with you because it really is really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really good.
