Fela Kuti and Africa 70 - Expensive Shit (1975)


One great record, two great songs:
  1. "Expensive Shit" – 13:13
  2. "Water No Get Enemy" – 11:00
The title of the album refers to an incident in which the Nigerian police tried to arrest Kuti by planting a joint on him. Kuti managed to eat the joint which prompted the police to bring him into custody and try to wait for him to produce the excrement. According to legend he managed to use another inmate’s feces and was eventually released.

    This shit's the shit. I listened to it on my way home from lake tahoe last week, stompin' and hammerin' on the steering wheel all the way down the mountain.

    Water No Get Enemy is probably my favorite song by Fela. Next to Gentleman.

    This is some classic stuff. Too bad vinyl copies of this are extremely rare and extremely expensive.
